Salutations and Introductions

Hi, I’m Kate!

Welcome to my blog! I just wanted to introduce myself and give you a couple quick facts about me and my experience as a writer and editor.

I started out as a news reporter at a small daily paper in New Hampshire after completing my bachelor’s degree in English Journalism at the University of New Hampshire. I then moved to a daily paper in Connecticut, working in a bureau and then transferring to the main newsroom. During my time at the Norwich Bulletin, I worked as a town reporter, covering different towns, reporting on municipal meetings as well as human interest stories. I then spent some time on the news copy desk, honing my editing skills and learning about page design.

I switched to the Features copy desk, assisting in producing daily features pages, as well as a weekly entertainment insert. I enjoyed working with the features team, working with reporters and photographers to assign stories, and designing pages for the section front.

Due to moving and starting a family, I took a few years off from writing.

I took my first foray into the public relations field writing for a hospital, interviewing doctors and patients for a monthly newsletter, as well as revamping a patient handbook and other projects.  I also wrote for an online news site, covering local events and writing a parenting column.

More recently, I worked with a community college, providing stories for a monthly online newsletter, covering events and managing their social media accounts.
